Ali Imsirovic wins 2018 Poker Masters Purple Jacket

16 September 2018

(PRESS RELEASE) -- Ali Imsirovic, a 23-year-old from Vancouver, Washington, took down back-to-back events on his way to winning $1,288,600 and with that enough points to beat out double event winner David Peters for the Purple Jacket. Imsirovic more than doubled his career live tournament earnings at the PokerGO Studio, following in the footsteps of 2017 champion Steffen Sontheimer.

“There are very few things that can compare to this,” Imsirovic said after locking down the biggest win of his career.

“This win is very prestigious for me because this event series has all the top players in the world. I know the WSOP Main Event is seen as more prestigious, but in that event, you need to get very lucky across nine days battling against a below average field. In these fields, you constantly have to play your best because otherwise, you’re just going to get destroyed.”

Imsirovic started his road to the Purple Jacket by finishing in eighth place in the series-opening $10,000 No Limit Hold’em event for $27,600. In Event #5, a $25,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament, Imsirovic outlasted a field of 66 entries to capture the biggest prize of his live tournament career with $462,000. At this final table, Imsirovic defeated the likes of Ben Yu, Brian Rast, Jake Schindler and Jason Koon on his way to victory.

Later that night, Imsirovic registered late for Event #6, a $50,000 No Limit Hold’em tournament. In truly dominant fashion, Imsirovic knocked out the majority of the players on his way to gathering nearly half of the chip in play heading into the final six. At the final table the following day, Imsirovic busted all five of his opponents to collect the $799,000 first prize. The final table of this event included Koray Aldemir, Seth Davies, Jake Schindler and Justin Bonomo.

Crediting his family for his work ethic and dedication to being successful, Imsirovic looks to prove with future results that he belongs at the highest level.

“There are still plenty of guys I think are much better than I am, so I got a lot of work to do. I just ran better than they did but I’m looking forward to the challenge I’ll play more with these guys and feature high rollers and just trying to improve and get to their level.”
