Alderman Invites Mississippi Gaming Commissioners

11 May 2006

PASCAGOULA, Mississippi – As reported by the Mississippi Press: "Moss Point Alderman Michael "Shorty" Middleton invited the executive director of Mississippi's Gaming Commission and its commissioners to meet with the city's Board of Aldermen to discuss casino gambling in the city.

"'Come down and meet with our board,' Middleton told Gaming Commission Executive Director Larry Gregory on Wednesday.

"Middleton's invitation came during a Pascagoula Rotary Club program in which Gregory was discussing the status of the gaming industry on the Coast.

"Casino gaming has been a hot topic in Moss Point and with residents determining a plan to rebuild and improve the city in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. The Board of Aldermen recently rejected a proposed feasibility study on casino gambling in the city.

"…State law requires a countywide vote to determine if residents will allow casino gambling anywhere in their county. Middleton said he would like to see that provision changed.
