Alberta Tribal Casino Proposal Moves Ahead20 January 2005CANMORE, Alberta – As reported by the Canmore Leader: "The Stoney Nakoda First Nations, through a company set up to launch a casino operation, is moving ahead with its proposal to build a casino and hotel development east of Canmore. "The Stoneys and Mini Thni Casino Corp. have entered Step 5 of an eight-step process required by the Alberta Liquor and Gaming Commission before a casino licence can be issued. "At this point, said Edmonton-based Stoney consultant Poul Mark, it's realistic that construction work could start on the project in 2005. "…The site for the proposed development would be the land just southeast of the interchange of the Trans-Canada Highway and Highway 40 to Kananaskis Country. "That would put the casino within 30 kilometres of the central part of Canmore and even closer to future development in Three Sisters. "Mark said the casino, as it's proposed, would include about 300 slot machines and 15 or 16 gambling tables…" |
