Alberta Town Launches Problem Gambling Program

ALBERTA – As reported by the (Alberta) Daily Herald-Tribune: "A program to help gamblers deal with their gaming dependencies will start next month in Grande Prairie.

"Peace Country Health has announced that it will take part in the implementation and evaluation of a new program call 'Gambling Decisions.'

"Ellie Robson, a Health Strategies researcher with Capital Health in Edmonton, designed the 2000 Edmonton trial of the program.

"Implementing the program in Grande Prairie, Edson/Hinton and again in Edmonton will test its effectiveness in other communities, she said.

"…During the Grande Prairie trial, where Robson will act as a 'coach,' there will be more focus on the financial aspect of gambling problems. Many gamblers have money management problems before they start gambling…"
