Alberta Buys Machines from Casinos22 December 2003EDMONTON, Alberta – As reported by the CBC: "A lucrative deal for casino owners is coming to an end, two years after the province's auditor said it violated the Criminal Code. "The province had been allowing operators at 11 Alberta casinos to keep 70 per cent of the money from terminals that simulated horse racing for bettors, compared to the 15 per cent operators are paid on slot machines. "…In a report two years ago, [auditor general Fred Dunn] criticized the deal, saying it technically violates the Criminal Code. "…After the auditor general criticized the deal, the Alberta Liquor and Gaming Commission decided to buy the machines back, with a deadline of Dec. 31 this year…" |
