Albany Wants Piece of OTB Action23 January 2004ALBANY, New York – As reported by the New York Times Union: "Capital OTB lands a state license to have video lottery terminals at its Central Avenue tele-theater, Albany officials are looking for a say in the matter -- and, perhaps, a piece of the action. "'I don't have a problem with the VLTs going in there, but I know that's going to increase the demand on us for services,' said Mayor Jerry Jennings. "He said the city should, at the very least, receive a host community fee to offset added expenses related to police and fire protection and demands on city infrastructure. "…Capital District Regional Off-Track Betting Corp. has had a long-standing interest in putting VLTs in some of its larger venues, such as the tele-theater. With Gov. George Pataki's budget proposal on Tuesday to authorize eight more casinos to raise money for education, Capital OTB officials quickly said they would be interested in bidding on licenses to put the video slot machines at the tele-theater and at the Friar Tuck Inn in the town of Catskill…" |
