Alaska Committee Seeks Comments on Pull-Tabs8 December 2003ALASKA – As reported by the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner: "Local citizens with something to say about pull tabs will have a chance to address a state-level committee on the subject Monday morning. "A state committee on safety codes will be holding two local meetings this week as well. "The pull-tab subcommittee of the state Senate Labor and Commerce Committee is holding a public hearing from 9 to 11 a.m. Monday in the Fairbanks Legislative Information Office to gather public comment about a pair of proposals under consideration for Alaska's pull-tab parlors. "Any organization deemed a nonprofit by the IRS--including charities as well as entities like cities and chambers of commerce--can operate pull-tab parlors, according to Sen. Ralph Seekins, R-Fairbanks, a member of the two-man subcommittee. Seekins said the committee is looking at whether such parlors should only be made available to actual charity groups. "…Seekins said the panel is also looking at whether organizations should continue to be allowed to operate parlors outside of their immediate area--such as a Juneau charity running a parlor in Anchorage or Fairbanks, where there are more people and no sales taxes…" |
