Alabama tribe joins defendants in lawsuit

MOBILE, Alabama -- As reported by the Montgomery Advertiser: "The Poarch Band of Creek Indians has been given permission to become co-defendants in an anti-gambling lawsuit filed by Alabama Attorney General Troy King against the U.S. Department of the Interior.

"King filed the lawsuit in an attempt to prevent the federal government from forcing the state to negotiate rules allowing the tribe to install video gaming machines at its bingo parlors in Atmore, Wetumpka and Montgomery.

"...Attorneys for the Creek Indians stated in a filing last week that the tribe has a vital interest in the outcome of the suit and should be able to make its case in court, and U.S. District Judge William Steele agreed..."
