Alabama Casino Plans Unclear17 January 2006ALABAMA – As reported by the Fort-Payne Times Journal: "It's unclear whether or not Fort Payne residents should hedge their bets on the prospect of legalized gambling soon coming to the city. "Keetoowah Vice-Chief Charles Locust said last week there are no immediate plans for gaming on 69 acres of land in Fort Payne DeKalb resident David Hammonds would soon transfer to the tribe. "…However, Hammonds said Monday that Locusts' comments shouldn't be misconstrued as a blanket denial of the possibility of gaming coming to Fort Payne. "…Hammonds recently announced he plans to give the Tahlequah-based Keetoowah Band of Cherokee 69 acres adjacent to an ancient Indian burial site in Fort Payne. "Hammonds earlier said gaming would be offered on the land,' "as soon as possible.'…" |
