Alabama business fights ruling5 December 2006ALABAMA – As reported by the Birmingham Herald: "Milton McGregor said Monday he will seek a new hearing before the state Supreme Court on his Birmingham Race Course sweepstakes, and warned his 250 employees their jobs may end. "The state attorney general warned the court's decision - that the sweepstakes game was a carefully planned effort to get around Alabama anti-gambling laws - likely would force closure of many smaller operations statewide. "Jefferson County District Attorney David Barber, whose appeal led to Friday's decision, and others said they won't act to close gambling operations until the judgment is final. "…Two other Cullman County sweepstakes operations - Ricky's Internet Cafe and Mann's Internet Sweepstakes and Cabin Fever - also voluntarily closed over the weekend following the Supreme Court ruling…" |
