Akani awarded South Africa casino contract

SOUTH AFRICA -- (PRESS RELEASE) -- Property development company Akani Resorts has awarded a R733-million contract for the construction of a new casino resort near Mogale City, previously known as Krugersdorp, to construction company Grinaker-LTA Building, which is part of the JSE-listed Aveng Group, the company said on Friday.

The Silverstar Casino Resort would comprise three gaming venues - the main casino, a smokers' casino and a VIP casino, Grinaker-LTA said in an emailed statement.

It would also include banqueting and conference facilities, five restaurants, fast food court, bars, entertainment facilities and children's games arcade. In addition, the development would offer a 4- to 5-star hotel with health spa and pool.

Grinaker-LTA Building managing director Neil Cloete said that this was an "exceptionally fast tracked" project, with completion of the 54 000 m2 development scheduled for November 2007.
