Action filed against Mashantucket Pequot

CONNECTICUT – As reported by the Norwich Bulletin: "Attorney General Richard Blumenthal today asked a state court to find that the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is violating the slot machine revenue agreement, illegally reducing its payments to the state by millions of dollars a year.

"Blumenthal filed the action in Hartford Superior Court on behalf of Division of Special Revenue Executive Director Paul A. Young.

"The lawsuit asks the court to order the tribe to include the value of Foxwoods' 'Free Slot Play' promotion coupons in its slot machine 'gross operating revenue.' Under the 1993 agreement allowing slot machines at Foxwoods, the tribe agreed to pay the state 25 percent of the machines' gross operating revenue. Gross operating revenue is the amount the machines take in minus money paid out as winnings…"
