AC smoking ban may get senate vote

TRENTON, New Jersey – As reported by the Press of Atlantic City: "The chairman of the Senate Health Committee has breathed new life into the effort to ban smoking in all corners of Atlantic City casinos.

"State Sen. Joseph Vitale, D-Middlesex, has scheduled a Monday vote on legislation that would override an Atlantic City Council ordinance that designates smoking areas on one-quarter of casino gaming floors. Council originally sought a complete ban but settled for the designated smoking areas after the casino industry agreed not to mount a court challenge.

"…Both Gov. Jon S. Corzine and Assembly Speaker Joseph Roberts Jr., D-Camden, appear intent on letting the compromise play out for a while…"
