A.C. panel weighs delay of smoking ban at its casinos

ATLANTIC CITY, New Jersey -- As reported by the Courier-Post: "At this afternoon's meeting, City Council expects to consider a delay on the full casino smoking ban slated to take effect Oct. 15.

"The delay request comes from casino executives in the wake of a sinking economy, competition in Pennsylvania and New York and plunging casino revenues.

"The full ban is scheduled to take effect 18 months after a partial prohibition limited smoking to 25 percent of the casino floor.

"Gaming executives argue that even the partial ban contributed to a revenue slump last year and this year. The executives say that extending the no smoking signs will make a bad situation even worse, costing millions of dollars in lost revenue and untold jobs..."
