7th Street Casino makes first quarterly payment16 May 2008KANSAS -- As reported by the Kansas City Star: "The 7th Street Casino on Thursday made its first quarterly payment, in the amount of $152,416.24, to the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City, Kan. "After years of fighting each other in court, the tribal-owned gambling hall and the city last year reached a revenue sharing agreement that reimburses the city for police, fire and other public services, including the use of city parking lots. The casino opened Jan. 10. "The tribe does not disclose casino financial data, but given the revenue sharing formula, the payment amount could indicate that the casino grossed more than $4 million in the quarter. "...The Unified Government's chief counsel, Hal Walker, said Thursday that the casino has had a positive impact on the city's downtown. "...Walker said the city coffers gained, too: 'If they do that well, we'll get better than $600,000 a year from a building that was paying nothing.'..." |
