50 Jump into Sea During Raid

MALAYSIA – As reported by the (Malaysia) Penang: “More than 50 people, including several women, jumped into the sea when police raided a ‘mini casino’ in Weld Quay yesterday.

“Thirty others also escaped via a side lane into the densely populated area.

“However 13 men and five women who did not react swiftly enough were arrested.

“Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Chief Insp Chien Chunng Tsaur raided the gambling den where an estimated 100 people were playing tai sai at about 3.45pm.

“…Investigations revealed that the mini casino raked in several hundred thousand ringgit a week.

“…Police believe that the mastermind of the gambling syndicate is a man, in his 30s, who has been banished to Perak under the Restricted Residence Act.

“…His younger brother was arrested on Oct 1 in Perak Road when police rounded up a total of 30 people including 10 syndicate members…”
