19-year-old wins $210K in WSOP Circuit main event

2 March 2011

SOUTH FLORIDA -- A 19-year-old won a prize of $210,180 at a WSOP main event this morning, according to the Sun-Sentinel.

John Riordan, the youngest winner in WSOP history, nabbed the prize at the Palm Beach Kennel Club, the report said.

Riordan, who had the chip lead for much of the late stage of the tournament, apparently began playing poker online in free money games at age 13, The Sun Sentinel report noted.

In Florida state law allows people age 18 and above to play poker, many other states, such as Nevada, have the age limit set at 21, Sun-Sentinel said.
