10 Pennsylvania Powerball Tickets Win Over $850,000

20 October 2005

MIDDLETOWN, Pennsylvania – (PRESS RELEASE) -- Ten Pennsylvania Lottery tickets matched all five white balls, 07-21-43-44-49, but not the red Powerball, 29, in the Wednesday, Oct. 19, Powerball drawing. Each ticket is worth $853,492 cash. Holders of the winning tickets will receive $200,000 each for matching 5-of-5 Powerball numbers, plus an additional $653,492 from the first-ever Match 5 Bonus Prize Pool for total winnings of $853,492 each.

The Match 5 Bonus Prize, a feature added to Powerball in 2002, was activated for the first time Wednesday night. When the Powerball jackpot surpassed the record jackpot level, previously $315 million, the new bonus feature limited the jackpot growth to no more than $25 million per draw. The portion of sales that normally would have been added to the jackpot amount above $340 million was moved to the new Bonus Prize Pool to be equally divided among the Match 5 prizewinners when the jackpot was hit.

The first Powerball Match 5 Bonus Prize paid out more than $32 million to 49 Match 5 winners. Two non-Pennsylvania Match 5 winners purchased the PowerPlay option, and as a result won prizes totaling more than $1.6 million each. Pennsylvania sold more winning Match 5 tickets that any other Powerball jurisdiction.
