10 Gambling Ring Arrests Made4 May 2004YONKERS – As reported by the Journal News: ``Ten people — including four from Westchester — were charged yesterday as part of an organized crime syndicate that earned in excess of $10 million yearly on college and professional sports betting. ``The group known as "The Hank Burrough Gambling Organization" was charged after a five-month investigation by Westchester County District Attorney Jeanine Pirro's office and the state police. ``Henry "Hank" Burrough, 63, of 61-M Rockledge Road, Hartsdale, was identified as a bookmaker and head of the group, according to court papers obtained yesterday in Yonkers City Court. ``…The organization wagered mainly on college and professional basketball, football, baseball, hockey and horse racing. ``According to the papers, the organization operated at least three wire rooms in the Bronx and Westchester. Bettors were given codes that could be used to place bets…" |
