$25 Million Casino Planned for Sparks, Nevada

SPARKS, Nevada – As reported by the Reno Gazette-Journal: "A $25-million-plus casino is planned for Pyramid Highway in Sparks, using the license from the shuttered downtown Old Reno Casino, Reno lawyer and gaming lobbyist Harvey Whittemore said Wednesday.

"The casino would be owned by Whittemore and his partners from the Peppermill Hotel-Casino.

"The project is the latest chapter in the 18-month saga of the Old Reno Casino, a tiny slots-only gambling hall on the south side of Commercial Row between Virginia and Sierra streets that was closed last week amid construction of the ReTRAC trench project.

"…A partner in the law firm Lionel Sawyer & Collins, Whittemore also is a business partner of Carasali's, along with Peppermill owners Bill Paganetti, Albert Seeno Jr. and Tom Seeno. The Peppermill partnership — for which Whittemore has an option to buy a share — holds the unrestricted gaming license of the Old Reno Casino.

"The unrestricted license can be transferred because it's grandfathered, allowing a new casino to be constructed without the minimum requisite 200 hotel rooms…"
