Chinese tourist dies in car-pedestrian crash on Strip

16 March 2009

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- A Chinese tourist has died from injuries suffered late Sunday in a collision with a vehicle on the Las Vegas Strip.

Metro Police said a 1998 Cadillac Seville driven by 21-year-old Erika Hart of Las Vegas was traveling north at 11:39 p.m. on Las Vegas Boulevard South at a traffic-controlled crosswalk at the intersection with East Convention Center Drive when a 69-year-old pedestrian jogged across the boulevard from east to west against a "Don't Walk" signal.

Metro Police identified the man when he was in critical condition this morning as Xudong Liu of China, police said. The man was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, authorities said.

The right front side of the Cadillac struck the man, who went into the passenger's side of the windshield before falling to the ground, police said. The Clark County Coroner's Office will issue a cause of death after an autopsy.

This is the 19th fatal accident in Metro Police jurisdiction this year.
