Deal Me In: Chance, not persistence, determines the winning spin

18 December 2015
Dear Mark: Please help me save my marriage. A while back, my wife and I were in a local casino in Reno. She was playing Megabucks. We were there for about two hours, and she had about $350 invested in the machine. I was tired and told her I wanted to go, so she reluctantly cashed out the remaining $50 she had in the machine, and we headed to the casino cage to cash the ticket. ... (read more)

Deal Me In: It doesn't hurt to ask

11 December 2015
Dear Mark: The question I have is with regard to your statement, “Here's the kicker: They are going to comp you anyway for a feeding frenzy so that after you chow down, you will hook right back up to another machine allowing them a shot at getting some of their money back.” Do you mean that if you are NOT ... Deal Me In: Kinship doesn't count for comps

4 December 2015
Dear Mark: Sometimes I mistakenly use my dad's player's card in a slot machine. Would I have any trouble getting a big payoff if they see the card isn't mine? Wayne S. On just about every players' club card brochure, you will find font size 4 print with these words: NON-TRANSFERABLE! Members may not distribute, lend or in any way allow another person to use their card. ... (read more)

Deal Me In: 5 + 5? How about 17 x 17?

30 November 2015
Dear Mark: I was amused by the question from Mary P. Here is why. At the Windsor Casino, I went to the executive office to ask the similar question on claiming a Grand Prize in the Car Promotions that they hold every couple of months. The nice thing about Windsor is that if you win the car or cash it is all tax-free in Canada. ... (read more)

Deal Me In: Show me your ID, please!

13 November 2015
Dear Mark: I have asked around, but nobody can give me a direct answer. If you get a taxable jackpot, will an expired driver's license be sufficient as an ID? Mary P. Whenever someone wins $1,200 or more, an ID is required for tax purposes because Uncle Sam claims a piece of the action. Thus, casinos today require proper identification (e.g. ... (read more)

Deal Me In: Let It Ride

6 November 2015
Dear Mark: What is your take on Let It Ride? I love to play it, but how bad are the odds? The three-card bet seems to be the best chance to win money. Steve C. Let It Ride is a variation of five-card stud poker where the player wagers on a poker hand consisting of three cards in the player's hand and two community cards in the dealer’s hand. ... Deal me In: Doubling as James Bond for $5 a pop

30 October 2015
Dear Mark: What are your suggestions to win playing mini-baccarat? Keith W. Like baccarat, mini-baccarat offers a very low house edge, and for the low roller it is one of the best games the casino offers. With mini-baccarat, only two hands are dealt, regardless of how many players are sitting tableside. ... (read more)

Deal Me In: This game is crap for the unsuspecting

16 October 2015
Dear Mark: How does a crapless table measure up to a conventional craps table as far as house advantages? Also, a floor manager at a casino suggested I go to a website named wizardofodds.com. He said it would help me to understand better the world of probability. Do you have any experience with it? Jerry What you stumbled upon, Jerry, is an offering called Crapless Craps or Never Ever Craps. ... (read more)

Deal Me In: Just a token of your appreciation

9 October 2015
Dear Mark: In yesterday's Detroit Free Press (10/1/15), there was a question about tipping. My question is also about tipping but more specifically as it pertains to a casino if you are lucky enough to win something big. A few weeks ago, my husband and I were vacationing in Deadwood, S.D., and I was one of the lucky ones who won at slots. ... (read more)

Deal Me In: Gamblers are shunning tightfisted slots

2 October 2015
Dear Mark: In your column “I’ve Been Everywhere,” you wrote about all the casino destinations that you have visited over the years. Did you find in your travels that slot machines look and play the same from state to state? Ken K. Slot machines, Ken, are comparable from casino to casino, state to state. ... (read more)
