Deal Me In: Prosperous gaffes do happen

2 May 2014
Dear Mark: I enjoy your column very much, mostly because you spent a lot of time on the inside. Here is my question. I was wondering if you have ever given away money to a player that did not deserve it. A dealer on a blackjack game once claimed it never happens, and yet, he overpaid me twice in two hours. ... Deal Me In: Chasing champagne wishes and caviar dreams

25 April 2014
Dear Mark: My wife plays slots only one way. She chases a high-end jackpot. If that does not happen - which it has not in over 20 years since she last won $20,000 - she always ends up going home broke. Any chance you can write a column on her playing style. I hope that it will help change her ways. Norm L. ... (read more)

Deal Me In: Luck be a lady tonight

18 April 2014
Dear Mark: I am glad that I didn’t purchase a season ski pass for the slopes at Tahoe last fall. I am taking what little I had saved and will try to grind out a kitty for a 14/15 pass. Sometimes a shooter will ask me to blow on the dice and even give me a chip, which automatically goes to a fund for next year’s pass. ... (read more)

Deal Me In: How'd he do dat?

11 April 2014
Dear Mark: I witnessed something interesting once while I was playing blackjack. The dealer, about every 15 minutes or so, would yell out a card, and lo and behold, that exact card would appear. I am not kidding. He must have done it three times in an hour. Once it was a seven of diamonds, later the three of clubs, and I cannot remember what the third card was, but he guessed it right. ... Deal Me In: Dealers aren't paid enough to spar with players

4 April 2014
Dear Mark: I have been a dealer for almost 20 years. Blackjack players love to argue about what the correct strategy is to be played. This can result in intimidation and even violence if someone at the table isn’t going by “their” rules. As a dealer, I try to keep the peace by telling them to play their own cards. ... Deal Me In: Reader catches discrepancy in blackjack basic strategy

28 March 2014
Dear Mark: I noticed on your audio that you advised standing on nines versus a dealer’s two. However, your strategy card that was included with the audio shows splitting (SP) nines against a two. Please clarify. Also, is always hitting, and never splitting fours, the appropriate play? Rita C. I believe, ... (read more)

Deal Me In: Loose slots and loads of goodies

21 March 2014
Dear Mark: Do you have a favorite place to play quarter slots in Las Vegas? What casino has the best returns? I am going there next month. Meri W. Unfortunately, Meri, when it comes to slot machines, there is no definitive return for slot paybacks at any one particular casino like those for video poker just by using one's noggin and analyzing a paytable. ... Deal Me In: Several groups of numbers can be had on the inside

14 March 2014
Dear Mark: In your most recent column on roulette, you mentioned, “Your inside bets are the numbers, including groups like 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.” I am confused. What do you mean by “including groups like 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6?” Sarah D. I am sure, Sarah, you have seen what I wrote about countless times, so I most ... (read more)

Deal Me In: A combo of different wagers won't help against the house edge

28 February 2014
Dear Mark: Is there a way of combining multiple wagers on a roulette table to maximize one's odds and increase my chances of winning? For instance, a column bet pays off at 2 to 1. If I place the second and third column, I have a 66.6% chance of winning, just so long as the 0/00 don’t appear. I would offset that by playing either the 0-00-1-2-3 combination, or a split bet of one chip on the 0-00. ... (read more)

Deal Me In: I'm talkin' Quick Draw McGraw fast!

21 February 2014
Dear Mark: I attend free slot tournaments when invited and wondered if there are any tips you can give to do well besides hitting the button quickly. Wayne S. The gist of any slot tournament, Wayne, works like this: Players either congregate in a specific room of the casino, or at the site on the casino floor holding the tournament. ... (read more)
