Malta Seminar Will Focus on Small European Jurisdictions

9 October 2002

In light of regulatory and legislative directions being taken in the United States, many in the interactive gambling business agree that Europe is the hotspot for growth in their industry. But, often overlooked amid the hoopla surrounding Europe's gradual adoption of I-gaming, particularly in the United Kingdom, is the progress being made in Europe's smaller jurisdictions, where major casino corporations, such as MGM Mirage and Rank, are getting their feet wet in the I-gaming space.

Prior to the inaugural European I-Gaming (EIG) Congress and Expo, slated for Oct. 15-16 in Barcelona, auditing firm PKF Malta will conduct a one-day seminar highlighting this progress and, more importantly, challenges and prospects for the future.

With the theme "Online Gaming in Small Jurisdictions - Lessons and Opportunities," the Small Jurisdictions i-Gaming Seminar will focus on issues affecting five "small" European online gambling jurisdictions--Malta, the Isle of Man, Alderney, Gibraltar and Monaco.

An impressive lineup of speakers will provide tips and information on how to best leverage businesses in these jurisdictions. Among them are Alfred Muscat, chairman, Malta Lotteries and Gaming Authority; Kevin Green, Guernsey e-Business director; and Andre Wilsenach, CEO, Alderney Gaming Control Commission. A host of key industry leaders from the private sector will present as well.

The seminar will highlight evolving concerns from internal controls for the industry and money laundering, multi-jurisdictional companies and how various small jurisdictions may work together. Topics such as broadcast transmissions and where and how to obtain a license will also be discussed.

The one-day seminar is scheduled for Oct. 14 at the Hotel Rey Juan Carlos in Barcelona, which is also the location of the EIG show.
