Ever think about discovering some new angle to bankrupt the casinos? But, how to go about it? You may think, "I've no academic background." Well, you don't need one. In fact, that may even be a disadvantage. I've a little secret for you. Great discoveries are not made in laboratories in the R&D section at Microsoft. They are made by hobbyists, wasters, people who should be doing something else. Another mistake people make with innovation is assuming that by meditation on the classic texts in a given field they will get some brilliant shaft of insight. I know of several blackjack authors who have read no more than a dozen blackjack texts. These blackjack authors are competent, but not brilliant. They don't play professionally, or if they do, they don't make the type of money Ed Thorp, Ken Uston, or even I made from blackjack--even though they may have highly developed critical faculties and intelligence quotient (IQ). The problem is that their thought processes rigidly follow those of orthodox thought leaving them unable to innovate. The true pros in the field read everything--not just on gambling either. The fact that much of it is garbage is not the point. To be truly successful, the professional gambler must adopt an interdisciplinary approach. In my library I have, as you might expect, all kinds of obscure statistical papers on investment in addition to gambling texts. Less obviously, I have books on body language, computer sales techniques, criminal psychology, magic and the occult, all of which have given me ideas which can be used to devastating effect in the casinos. For example, a book on magic taught me that the riffle shuffle leaves initially adjacent cards in close proximity--valuable information for predicting aces at blackjack or nines at baccarat. A book on computer selling told me that internet companies don't mind you using your own advertising links to buy their products and receiving recompense for referring the customer (yourself!). If you do this at internet casinos you can receive substantial remuneration on your initial deposit. A true pro never stops researching and can draw something of value from the most mundane sources.
