Your Turn to be a Gaming Writer

19 March 2003

Jeffrey Compton and Bob Dancer, two of the most respected names in the gaming industry, have announced that they are launching a first-of-its-kind e-newsletter totally written and edited by average casino players and recreational gambling enthusiasts.

This trail-blazing enterprise in casino gambling journalism will constitute a management publication that will be e-mailed to every gaming executive from casinos and organizations around the world. It’ll give true players, not consultants or professional gamblers, a forum to be heard and an opportunity to voice their opinions, complaints, and concerns.

This new publication debuted this past January as part of the outstanding information service to gaming industry professionals provided by Compton Dancer Consulting, Inc.

Compton and Dancer have had their fingers on the pulse of the gaming industry for years. They are widely known in gambling circles as outstanding journalists and authors. Their analysis and investigation of casino gambling from all sides of the equation always makes for riveting reading.

The new e-publication to which you are invited to contribute is titled “Playback”. According to editors Norma Foote, Scotch Henderson, and Scot Krause: “Playback will be a forum from which players will discuss both positive casino experiences and negative experiences with constructive suggestions.”

Playback is in the process right now of accepting articles and letters from average players across the country. Articles should be between 500–1500 words in length, well written, and containing specifically developed ideas. Here’s some more good news: All articles used in Playback will be compensated! Writers may either submit the entire article or a preliminary outline to playback@mgci.com. Specific compensation amounts will be quoted to the writer prior to publication.

If you’re not inclined to write a formal article voicing your thoughts and ideas, you may also submit input more informally in the form of a letter to the same e-mail address. Published letter contributors will not be compensated, but will receive complimentary copies of all issues for one year.

If you choose not to submit via e-mail, articles and letters may also be delivered via “snail mail” to Scotch Henderson, 3690 S. Eastern Avenue, Suite 213, Las Vegas, NV 89109-3377. All contributors should include their e-mail, mailing address, and phone number.

Playback will be published on a semi-monthly basis as part of the Compton Dancer Consulting , Inc. E-Report Series which currently includes the Adams Daily Report, Adams Review, and CDC’s own monthly Marketing and operations Insight Newsletters.

CASINO NEWS: Here’s a little tip for everyone who plays the nickel slots at Harrah’s Joliet Casino & Hotel. Whenever you have built up a “hand pay” credit amount, usually 2,000 coins ($100) on most machines, always hit the “cash out” button with 2,001 credits instead of an even amount. It is Harrah’s Joliet policy to hand pay UP to the nearest dollar, which means if you cash out for 2,001 credits ($100.05) you will be hand paid $101. Anytime you can “make” ninety-five cents on a casino it’s an opportunity you can’t afford to pass up.
