Teeing Up for Charity with Golden Tee Golf

25 August 2010

Incredible Technologies, the leading designer and manufacturer of coin-operated video games and online tournament systems in the United States, has many reasons to celebrate its 25th anniversary in 2010.

The Arlington Heights, Illinois based company entered the casino gambling sector this year with its first generation of electronic gaming devices. The machines debuted in the Chicago area at Horseshoe Casino Hammond to rave reviews from players.

However, it will always be the company's breakout product, Golden Tee Golf, which will set it apart from the rest of the field. That's one reason why next weekend's Golden Tee Players Charity Championship is so important.

The event will take place August 27 - 29 at Splinters Sports Pub located at 2070 N. Rand Road in Palatine. The popular establishment was the scene of the first live, player-run Golden tee Tournament in 1999.

Golden Tee Golf is the most successful arcade title in history. Through the years, the game has attracted a legion of followers. It was launched in 1989, just four years after Elaine Hodgson and Richard Ditton teamed up to form Incredible Technologies as a designer of operating systems and programming for pinball games.

In 2004 Splinters Sports Pub was the host for the original Golden Tee Players Charity Championship. More than $44,000 was raised by Video Golfers for Underdogs (VG4U). The money was gifted to the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Video Golfers for Underdogs was organized with the express purpose of supporting Players Charity Championship events.

The second Golden Tee Players Championship was held in St. Louis in 2008. This time more than $40,000 was raised by VG4U for the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

The beneficiary of this year's tournament will be Salute, Inc., (www.saluteinc.org), a recognized 501 (c) (3) non-profit organization that was founded by Will and Mary Beth Beiersdorf in 2003 to help meet the financial, physical and emotional needs of military service members, veterans, and their families.

Incredible Technologies, the major sponsor, is making a contribution of $25,000 in honor of its Silver Anniversary to help reach this year's goal of $100,000.

Registration for the Players Charity Championship is open to all Golden Tee players 18 years and older. All participants, however, must commit to raising a minimum of $300 for Salute, Inc. in addition to the entry fee of $125.

The tournament itself consists of two separate brackets with distinct head-to-head tournaments. Bracket qualification will be determined by a three-game qualifier on Saturday, Aug. 28. The players with the 32 best qualifying scores will advance to Sunday's championship bracket. The players who do not make it will be eligible to play in Sunday's (Aug. 29) Purple Bracket.

The Champions Bracket Finals will begin at 5:00 p.m.

More than half of the field will receive cash prizes greater than their entry fee.
