National Airlines Sure to Please Las Vegas Travelers5 September 2000
National Airlines, the first airline dedicated solely to serving Las Vegas, has been an unqualified success during its first year of operation according to Dik Shimizu, the company's director of corporate communications. "Chicago has been our steadiest service," he remarked. "At the present time we have three flights a day leaving Midway, but we are hoping to expand our service to O'Hare in the near future and serve both Chicago airports." National debuted May 27, 1999, with service from New York City and Chicago. Since then they've added Los Angeles, San Francisco, Dallas/Fort Worth, Philadelphia, Miami, New York (JFK), Washington National and Newark to their daily schedules. It's quite an impressive start for an airline offering exclusive daily non-stop flights to the gaming capital of the world. National Airlines is a partner with Harrah's Entertainment, Inc. in this venture, which means travelers can get extra perks if they stay in Las Vegas as a hotel guest at the Harrah's or Rio Hotel & Casino properties, including the delivery of your luggage directly from the airport to your hotel room. There are even National Flight Centers located in the lobbies of the hotels. National also has a frequent flyer program called National Comps. Points earned for flying can be converted directly to your Total Gold Harrah's or Play Rio player club accounts. The airline's fleet of 757s are among the most comfortable planes you can fly, a far cry from the cramped quarters you can encounter on some charter flights. There's plenty of leg room, more first class seats, more overhead space, and real meals. National Airlines may be worth checking out the next time you're planning a Las Vegas getaway.
