Majestic Star Casino Unveils "Da Coach"-Inspired Sports Bar

28 July 2004

The Majestic Star Casino has added a creative new dimension of entertainment to the Chicago-area gambling scene with the grand opening of Don & Mike's Sports Bar.

Gambling enthusiasts who have become accustomed to hotel, fine and casual dining options, Las Vegas-style buffets and entertainment at area casinos will find this innovative addition to the market an exciting change of pace.

Don and Mike's is named for Don H. Barden, the owner of the Majestic Star casino, and the one and only Mike Ditka, who earlier this year was named the official spokesman for the property, located at Buffington Harbor in Gary, Indiana.

One unique aspect to the new venue is the fact it's located on the Majestic Star vessel proper, on the third level in a spacious room that previously was utilized as a VIP lounge. This enables the casino to incorporate slot games as part of its entertainment experience.

The bar features 21 of the popular Multi-Strike video poker games in nickel, ten-cent and twenty-five cent denominations, as well as 16 one-dollar video poker machines linked to a progressive meter.

While guests play video poker, they are surrounded by 13 flat-screen TVs that'll televise all live sporting events from around the world via four different satellite receivers.

The décor of the sports bar is a tribute to Da Coach himself, from the gridiron-inspired carpeting, baseball bat pillars, professional sports team-inspired murals, scoreboard, and basketball hoop canopy over the bar. The ambience is stylish yet casual, comfortable and friendly.

Stadium-style food will be served from a sports arena-style concession stand. All your stadium favorites will be available, including hot dogs, Dave Duerson's special "DD" sausage, cheeseburgers, Italian beef, tacos and more. Of course, there's a wide variety of liquors, beer and wine.

Barden is the only African-American to own and operate a national casino entertainment company. His Majestic Star Casino Investor Holdings LLC, through its subsidiaries, also owns three Fitzgerald brand casinos in Tunica, Mississippi, Black Hawk, Colorado, and Las Vegas, Nevada.
