Brokopp Brims Craps Crew's Coffers22 February 2000
How's this for an oddity? Not long ago, after buying into a five-dollar craps game aboard the Northern Star at Harrah's Joliet for a hundred dollars and playing for nearly two hours, I found myself only a few bucks ahead but very happy for not having lost. I had played even for most of the session and was very impressed with the courtesy, professionalism, and hard work of the crew of dealers. To express my appreciation to them I tossed in four white chips to the stickman and said to bet a dollar on each hardway for the crew. During the next five minutes or so, the shooter proceeded to roll EVERY hardway, winning every bet for the dealers. First the hard eight, a couple rolls later the hard ten, and not long after that, the hard four. The stickman looked at the chip on the hard six and said: "Well, we got this far, we might as well get that one, too." The next roll came and a pair of threes showed! "Unbelievable," said the stickman. "I don't think we've ever swept 'em all!" The crew wound up collecting $36 in tips from my $4 bet for them. It should happen that way every time!
