Seven Deadly Sins for Video Poker Players: 6. Wrath, 7. Sloth26 January 2025
This is a combined article that covers the sixth deadly sin – wrath, and the seventh deadly sin – sloth. 6. Wrath Merriam-Webster defines wrath as “strong, vengeful anger or indignation” Playing in a casino can be stressful. People who are stressed are subject to emotional outbursts. One type of emotional outburst is wrath. Wrath can come from many different areas when playing in a casino. Some of the more common experiences that can provoke wrath are: - Losing streaks. - Bankroll depletion. This is closely related to the previous point. - Other players around you having good luck – hearing the sounds of their winning hands. - Other player’s shouts of joy and excitement. - Having smoke blown in you face by nearby players. - Interruption from other players. Being asked how to play hands by others. - Loud and boisterous players. - Many, many other normal sights and sounds in the casino that are irritating. Eventually, these irritations grow to the point where wrath erupts. It is well to quit playing before the irritations reach the point of wrath. Wrath implies loss of control. Loss of control invites further loss. 7. Sloth Merriam-Webster defines sloth as “disinclination to action or labor” or “spiritual apathy or inactivity.” When it comes to casino gambling, sloth manifests itself in places other than on the casino floor. It can happen at home or in the hotel room. Most regular and serious video poker players know that to get the most from their play, they must know and use perfect strategy. In order to accomplish that feat, players must practice while not at a machine in the casino. Slothful players avoid practicing the strategy at home – it is too much work. If by chance they do practice the strategy, they do it for only a short period of time. Like all the other of the seven deadly sins, sloth causes additional losses that can be avoided. Do not be slothful if you want the best from your casino play. As always, may all your wins be swift and large, and your losses be slow and tiny.
