Man or Woman in the Casino

16 June 2024

Over the years, there have been different versions of “man on the street” interviews. Typically, someone would ask a random person on the street a general question. This was done to get a feeling for what the general public felt about a topic.

I tried this in a few local casinos. Curious about what the average casino gambler felt about different aspects of casino gambling, I took the questions directly to them. I asked each of the gamblers several questions. This article covers the first question I asked them on the casino floor.

The question was “What do you consider a successful trip to a casino?”

I left the question open-ended in order to get the widest range of responses.

Here are the most typical responses:

Will from Tennessee:

“Pretty much depends on how you define success. Returning home as a winner is obviously a successful trip. Casinos want to take all your money but still leave you wanting to come back so they can take even more. So, returning home with any of your money could also be considered a successful visit.”

Linda from Missouri:

“I just love playing the different slot games. I have a set amount I set aside to play. When that is gone, I am done. Most trips this fund lasts two to three hours. Sometimes it does not last very long at all. Other times it lasts the entire trip with even a little left. And on rare occasions I come home a winner.

“I consider a trip successful in the last two situations – money lasting the entire trip and coming home a winner. It does not get any better than that.”

Bob from Arkansas:

“Any time I win makes it a successful trip. Come to think of it, any time I do not lose everything I have with me is a successful trip.”

Carrie from Arkansas:

“A successful trip to the casino is coming out even (or better). It is a bonus if ‘even’ includes food and drinks.”

Brian from Arkansas:

“A successful trip would involve not hitting the ATM and playing for over four hours – then leaving knowing I had a good time with the money I brought to the casino.”

Randy from Mississippi:

“I love playing craps. A successful trip to the casino is being able to play for four hours or more on my initial buy-in. It is a very successful trip if I double my buy-in. It is a super successful trip if my roll or rolls is or are what caused the doubling of my buy-in! What a great feeling that is”

There you have it – straight from the mouths of the men (or women) in the casino.

What about you? What do you consider a successful trip to the casino?

As always, may all your wins be swift and large, and your losses be slow and small.
