Casino Survey Part 9

Casinos have a wide range of games designed to attract nearly every type of gambler. Since there is such a variety, I thought it might be interesting to survey casino goers to find out their favorite games and why they play them.

This is the ninth article in a series of articles that explores this topic.

Responses from a recent casino sampling.

Shirley from Mississippi:

“I love coming to the casino. I love the action. I love being able to smoke without having to stop what I am doing and go to a 'special' area to do it.

Initially, I thought table games were the way to go.

I tried blackjack. That was a big mistake. There were so many rules and signals I had to learn in order to play. Even after I had those down pat, other players would complain about my smoking.

They would also complain about my playing decisions. Sometimes they would get very upset just because I took a hit and it happened to be the dealer’s bust card. I became a persona non grata in a big hurry.

So, no more blackjack for me.

I also tried roulette. This game was better. It took a little while to know how to bet, but not very long. Nobody at the table complained about my play – but some did complain about my smoking. One thing that did bother me was having to reach across the layout to make bets. Sometimes several people would get in each other’s way to place their bets.

Eventually, I stopped playing roulette. It was not all that satisfying.

Then it dawned on me. What I really enjoyed was gambling by myself and gambling where I could smoke without anyone bothering me about it.

I realized slot machines is where I would be the happiest. I started with the single line games with actual physical reels that required only a quarter to play. The fancy video slots with a bazillion pay lines seemed a bit too busy for me.

I found that usually I was able to play for a long time on the money I brought to the casino.

Eventually, I did graduate to penny and nickel video slot machines. They can be very exciting to play – especially when multiple lines are winners.

I finally found my niche and I am very comfortable and happy in it.”
