Casino City's Week 14 NFL Circa Million IV Pro Football Contest Picks9 December 2022
Despite the victory though, the Rams are still suffering from a Super Bowl hangover. They sit at 4-9 overall and 1-4 in last place in the NFC West, and can only hope to come back next season with everyone healthy as there’s no way for them to get into the playoffs. Las Vegas, on the other hand, is still clinging to its slight playoff hopes, currently sitting at 5-8 overall and 3-2 in the AFC West Division. As a result of last night’s loss, the Raiders now must run the table and will need help to get into the playoffs. The Casino City Press players can only hope it follows the Rams’ positive vibes from last night as we are still licking our wounds after last weekend’s poor 1-4 showing that left us at 31-31-1 for the season. Let’s take a look at our picks for Week 14:
New York Jets +9.5 over Buffalo Another week and another big game for the Bills. Entering this weekend, despite having a 9-3 overall record Buffalo only sits at 1-2 in the AFC East. Unfortunately for Buffalo, the Jets come to Orchard Park this weekend. New York, which enters this game at 7-5 overall and 2-2 in the division, handed the Bills one of those losses a month ago as they won 20-17 at home. Despite entering this game with backup quarterback, now starter, Mike White after the benching of Zach Wilson, who defeated Buffalo earlier this season, New York is still right in the thick of things. Since taking over, White is 1-1, but he’s thrown for over 300 yards in both games, a 31-10 win against the Chicago Bears and a 27-22 loss at Minnesota, which is 10-2 overall. Win or lose, the points are just too much to stay away. J-E-T-S, Jets, Jets, Jets to cover! Pittsburgh -2.5 over Baltimore Ravens’ signal caller Lamar Jackson bet on himself this year and he may have lost big. Prior to the season, Baltimore offered him a $250 million contract as Jackson was entering the final year of his rookie deal. Last week; however, the always-a-threat to run quarterback left last week’s game with a knee injury after getting sacked against Denver. Now the Ravens, who sit at 8-4 overall, must figure out a way to hold onto their first-place 2-0 lead in the AFC North Division with backup quarterback Tyler Huntley. Enter the Steelers, who at 5-7 overall and 1-2 in the same division, who would like nothing better than to kick Baltimore when it’s down. Pittsburgh comes into the game riding a two-game winning streak and its rookie quarterback Kenny Pickett is not only upright, but also has passed for over 170 yards in both wins and done just enough to let the Steelers defense do the rest. This will be the first of two matchups between the division rivals, and in the event that Jackson is firing on all cylinders the next time around, Pittsburgh is going to ride the Terrible Towel home crowd to an overall and Against The Spread victory!
Seattle -3.5 over Carolina The merry-go-round of quarterbacks for the Panthers appears to have stopped, but whether that is a good thing remains to be seen. Over the past three games, Carolina has trotted out the aforementioned Mayfield, former XFL quarterback P.J. Walker, and last week the former 2018 third-overall pick Sam Darnold. One would think that ending on a near-the-top draft pick would signify a turn of good things to come, but there’s a reason Darnold wasn’t the starter in the first place this season. So now the Panthers, who sit at 4-8 overall and 3-1 in the NFC South, must hope this time around goes better for the signal caller as they cling to a playoff chance. The Seahawks; however, not only know who their signal caller is in Geno Smith, but they double downed on him when they traded former Super Bowl winning quarterback Russell Wilson over the off season. Smith has been nothing short of spectacular as he ranks in the top 10 in passing yards, touchdowns, first downs and more for Seattle, which sits at 7-5 overall, 3-1 in the NFC West, and clearly still in the hunt for a top playoff spot. Even with Smith popping up on yesterday’s injury report with a throwing-shoulder issue, his possibly-compromised arm isn’t what’s going to lead the Seahawks to cover, it’s his heart, which has been tried over and over as he was a backup for a long time.
Denver +9.5 over Kansas City Sometimes the best bets you make are the ones that are the most difficult to actually go to the window and hand over your hard-earned cash. This is one of those picks. Simply put, the Denver offense has been absolutely horrific this season, entering this game dead last in scoring. What's frustrating for Bronco fans is that the defense has been, dare we say, elite, to the point where if the aforementioned Wilson and Co. averaged 18 points per game instead of 13.8, the Blue and Orange would be 8-4 rather than their current record of 3-9. That said, we can't resist taking these generous points with a top-notch defense, at home in a divisional rivalry that, according to the game's total of 44, is supposed to be a relatively low-scoring game where points will be at a premium. What's more, the Chiefs haven't covered a point spread since 23 October. They are 4-8-1 against the spread in their last 12 regular season games when listed as a favorite of a TD or more, and they are just 0-5-1 ATS in their last six games against teams with a losing record. Hold your nose and take Denver! New England -1.5 over Arizona In a case where we're going to buy low on the Patriots, let's lay the short number on the road in Monday Night Football. New England is coming off a dreadful Thursday Night Football performance in which they got trounced by the Bills at home, but Buffalo has proven to simply be a bad match-up for Bill Belichick over the last couple years. The week before on Thanksgiving Night, New England outplayed the Vikings on the road, but special teams miscues and penalties led to a frustrating loss. That puts Belichick in the usual spot of coming off two-straight losses and – no surprise here – his teams have gone 13-2 straight up in that situation and 10-5 ATS, and an even better 6-0 SU and 5-1 ATS when the game is on the road. Bottom line: New England has taken care of inferior opponents this season, going 5-2 against teams with a losing record with one of those losses coming at Green Bay with a third-string QB taking most of the snaps. The Cards are a mess, have covered just three of their last 12 home games and may very well be playing for a lame duck head coach. The price is right. Take the Pats to bounce back. Week 12 Results: 1-4 Season Record: 31-31-1
