Trade Tiff: U.S.-Antigua Settlement Deadline Pushed back

The United States and the Caribbean nation of Antigua and Barbuda have pushed their World Trade Organization settlement deadline to this Friday.

L. Errol Cort, Antigua's finance minister, told reporters on the island Monday that the June 20 deadline will "allow both parties additional time to see whether we're able to meet some amicable resolution."

The two countries have been in negotiations since late January over the United States' decision to withdraw gambling services from the General Agreement on Trade in Services.

The withdrawal stems from a near five-year dispute between the two nations over the United States' Internet gambling policy.

"Both sides are trying to work something out," Sean M. Spicer, a spokesperson for the trade representative, has told Interactive Gaming News.

The last deadline, June 6, passed without a resolution.
