Macau gaming revenues increase 13.2 percent in April

3 May 2013

Macau gaming revenues grew 13.2 percent during April for the market’s fourth straight double-digit increase this year.

The Macau Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau said Thursday the region’s casinos collected more than $3.5 billion from gamblers in April. Analysts said the figure was impressive because April 2012 produced a nearly 22 percent gaming revenue hike.

For the first four months of 2013, Macau’s gaming revenue collections are up 14.4 percent compared to the same four months of 2012. Last year, Macau casino collected a record $38 billion in gaming revenues.

In March, Macau casinos shattered the region’s monthly gaming revenue record, collecting more than $3.92 billion from gamblers.

“We believe this was broadly in line with investor expectations for yet another solid month,” Union Gaming Group principal Grant Govertsen, who is based in Macau, told investors. “The calendar was slightly less favorable this year with one fewer Sunday.”
