Gaming Hall of Fame inductees include Adelson, Blue Man Group

19 July 2011

LAS VEGAS, Nevada -- Las Vegas Sands Corp. Chairman Sheldon Adelson, Strip headliners the Blue Man Group and celebrity chef Charlie Palmer are the 2011 inductees to the Gaming Hall of Fame, the American Gaming Association announced Monday.

The inductees will be honored Nov. 1 at the 23rd annual Gaming Hall of Fame Charity Dinner and Induction Ceremony. The event will take place at The Venetian Resort-Hotel-Casino. The proceeds benefit the National Center for Responsible Gaming.

Adelson, who is also the chief executive officer of Las Vegas Sands, is credited with spearheading the gaming industry's move into Asia. The company operates casinos in Macau and Singapore, along with a casino in Pennsylvania and the Venetian and The Palazzo Resort Hotel Casino on the Strip.

"Sheldon Adelson truly is one of our industry's greatest innovators," American Gaming Association President Frank Fahrenkopf Jr. said in a statement. "His vision has expanded and transformed the gaming experience not only in Las Vegas, but around the world. Without him, the gaming industry that our customers have come to expect would not exist."

The Blue Man Group has been performing on the Strip for more than a decade. The group has performed at the Luxor Hotel and Casino and Venetian and will move to the Monte Carlo Resort and Casino in 2012.

Palmer has opened 13 restaurants across the country, including five associated with gaming properties. In Las Vegas, Palmer operates the Aureole at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino, Charlie Palmer Steak at the Four Seasons, Las Vegas, and Charlie Palmer Steak, Fin Fish and Briscola at the Grand Sierra Resort and Casino in Reno.
