O'Neill, Davler, Iskoe Books Can Help Make Bettors Smarter19 August 2004
O'Neill's newest (he also wrote Football Betting: Strategies for the Smart Player and Football Betting's Cutting Edge: Strategies for a New Era) is titled Real World Sports Betting: How Real People Make Real Money In the Global Marketplace (109 pages, 8x11 plastic spiralbound, $29.95). It contains 28 chapters with major sections on pro and college football betting, and with information on pro and college basketball, discussions on teaser bets, money line parlays; profiting from offshore sports book bonuses; benefiting from sports book mistakes; advice on money management; and choosing the right sports books for both opportunity and safety. O'Neill, who's been there and done a lot, explains how things have changed for both the bet-makers and the bet-takers, via technology, heightened knowledge, sharper individuals and new theories of handicapping. The book is structured solidly with many ideas for the beginner or the somewhat experienced player who needs fresh thoughts and a new approach to betting sports. Trends Made Easy (NFL 2004) by Davler Sports contains more than 700 betting angles for sides and totals. The 60-page book (8x11 plastic spiralbound, $27.95) is in its 14th year. It is divided, as it has been in the past, into two sections. The first section lists each team with the complete schedule, the opponent, the type of surface the game will be played on, followed by eight or nine betting trends based on past performance. For example: "Play against the dog when Green Bay plays Dallas" (the angle shows the dog has a 1-12 record against the spread since 1979). Also: Play Kansas City UNDER vs. Buffalo (1-11 since 1986). The second section is in chronological order from September to January where you can isolate what teams are in action on a particular day. For example, looking ahead to Sept. 12, there are 21 betting angles on that date including for example, Oakland at Pittsburgh. You're advised "Play against Pittsburgh their first game of the season. (4-10 since 1990)." Andy Iskoe's NFL Teams & Situations (149 pages, 8x11 plastic spiralbound, $29.95), shows you how teams or the entire league did, year by year since 1998, for the last three years or year by year including last season since 1998. His research shows how teams performed on grass, as a dog, on Monday nights, in their division, after scoring or allowing 30 points in their previous game, in a sandwich game or in their last game before two or more road games or home games, among other situations, all of which seem to repeat more than one would expect. Wondering about which teams were profitable or would lose money if bet since 1998? Iskoe has the goods, year by year or for the past three years or last six combined. What was the average margin of victory for all NFL teams year by year and how do they compare year by year since 1981 and how often did the number fall from zero to 54? What are the strongest situational performances by teams, for shorter, medium or long-term tendencies? What seem to be the pattern for teams after an off week (or bye)? Iskoe has analyzed virtually every important pro football betting angle with some solid rationale, including first road or home game of the season; final game of season; non-Sunday games. Overall, this is a magnificent, time-saving compilation by one of the most respected individuals in the business. Copyright Gambler's Book Shop.
