FTOPS VI champ claims prize of nearly $400,00021 November 2007
After 16 events and 12 days of action that saw more than 27,000 players compete for $11.1 million in prize money, fkscreennames was crowned the Full Tilt Online Poker Series VI Main Event champion on Sunday night. The newest FTOPS title holder picked up two pair (aces and sixes) on the turn in the tournament's final hand to knock off southside1 and claim the top prize of $385,937.45 while outlasting a field of 4,371 players that bought into the No Limit Texas Hold'em game. The $9 million that Full Tilt guaranteed in prize money for FTOPS VI was easily surpassed. And four players in the Main Event walked away with six-figure winnings as southside1 ($233,629.95), mendieta19 ($152,985) and kavicarter ($120,202.50) all enjoyed big pay days. Overall, the Main Event had a prize money package worth $2,185,500, the highest of the 16 events. Five other events paid out more than $1 million. FTOPS VI winner fkscreennames is no stranger to the event after placing 18th in FTOPS V and 19th in FTOPS IV. The new champ held a huge chip lead with three players left, but southsides1 and mendieta19 each won big pots to close the gap significantly. The field was narrowed to two when mendieta19 was eliminated after going all in with an off suit Q-J and fkscreennames' pocket kings held up. One hand later, fkscreennames, holding A-6, watched the Qd-Ah-9c flop and then went all in after picking up another 6 on the turn. With an A-J in the hole, southsides1 called and was finished off when the 8 of clubs came up on the river. Team Full Tilt did not fare well in FTOPS VI. Eddy Scharf, who finished 22nd, was the last Full Tilt pro eliminated from the the Main Event. Mark Vos' 76th place finish was the next highest among the pros. Only two Team Full Tilt members earned a Top-10 finish in FTOPS VI. Aaron Bartley was sixth in Event #13 and won $78,525 while Clonie Gowen won $3,199 with a 10th place finish in Event #14. Players that got edged out on the money this week are already thinking about FTOPS VII thanks to Full Tilt's "Bouncebackability" Freeroll tournament. Starting with FTOPS VI, the last player eliminated before the money in any FTOPS event will win an entry to this exclusive freeroll where a buy-in to the FTOPS VII Main Event will be up for grabs. The first "Bouncebackability" Freeroll goes this Sunday, Nov. 25 at 4:30 p.m. ET.
