Wheeling Island prohibits setting dice

30 September 2011

Dear Frank:

I was down at Wheeling Island casino in West Virginia over the weekend. They have a "new rule" that you can't arrange the dice or shake the dice. You have to just pick them up and throw them to the other end.

I've never heard of such a rule -- have you?

Many of the players are leaving.

Hopefully this isn't a trend that will catch on. Can you shed any light on this?

Thanks,
Steve

Dear Steve:

Craps used to be such a beautiful game wherever it was played. Now uptight casino bosses are making the game, and many other games too, not so much fun any more.

It is possible that the casino mistakenly thinks that those who set the dice are taking up too much time. A survey I took shows this is not the case. Perhaps, the casino bosses fear that dice controllers will be able to beat them. This is an interesting fear since almost all dice setters are not dice controllers. There are very few competent dice controllers out there but maybe 50 percent of players set the dice in some way.

Imposing on a wonderful game such as craps such silly rules makes the game much less fun to play and doing such will result in what has happened to this casino -- losing some of their players. Why play there when you can go somewhere that allows you to play craps the way it was meant to be played?

Yes, I have heard of some other casinos doing this but most of them are casinos of very little worth and better avoided than frequented. My advice is to go where your action is appreciated and the game is presented properly.

I am giving you a free 30-day subscription to my private members-only website at www.goldentouchcraps.com. We have over 5,000 members on this private site and the conversations are interesting, enlightening and fun.

Enjoy!

All the best in and out of the casinos!
