What Is the 5-Count?

13 March 2008

Hi, Frank,

You speak about the 5-Count and since I have never played Craps I really don't know what you are teaching. I like to go into a casino with an edge and it sounds like the 5-Count would help provide a little better betting edge than me just throwing the money away.

Please forgive me for being stupid but when it comes to Craps I am!

Sincerely,
Cliff

Dear Cliff:

You're not stupid; you just don't know the game yet. The 5-Count was developed by the Captain, the greatest craps player of all time. It was his way to reduce the number of random rolls he faced and position himself to take advantage of controlled shooters (what he called "rhythmic rollers").

There is a very interesting article on the 5-Count here: http://www.goldentouchcraps.com/skinny0001.shtml

The 5-Count does take a little while to explain but its general outline is as follows:

  • The shooter is on his come-out roll:
  • If the shooter rolls a 2, 3, 11 or 12, the 5-Count doesn't begin.
  • If the shooter rolls a point number, which is 4, 5, 6, 8, 9, or 10 -- that's the 1-Count
  • Any number can be the 2-Count, 3-Count, 4-Count (unless shooter sevens out)
  • If the shooter now rolls a 2, 3, 11 or 12, it is 4-Count and holding.
  • The 5-Count must be another point number.

Once the 5-Count is finished, you start your betting.

A complete discussion can be found in my book Golden Touch Dice Control Revolution! It will explain the ins and outs of the 5-Count, including what happens when a shooter makes his point or when he sevens on a come-out roll after making his point. You can purchase the book at Amazon.com.

All the best in and out of the casinos!
