Two questions on the 5-Count

23 June 2015

FROM JOHN: Hello, Frank, and thanks again for signing and sending me free books! I have since purchased several others and very much enjoy them all, as well as the stories about the Captain and the rest of the old crew.

I have two questions about the 5-Count in dealing with shooters other than me, and I apologize in advance if I just missed the answers in one of your books.

1. If an obvious random shooter happens to make it through the 5-Count do you bet on them? Even if they are especially reckless and careless with the dice? Does how a shooter throws have any impact if that shooter is a random roller?

2. If a shooter makes it through the 5-Count, sevens out and then gets the dice again do you bet on them right away or put that same person through the 5-Count each time it is their turn, especially in cases where it is a person being cautious and careful about how they set, aim and throw the dice?

Much appreciated and I hope all is well!

FRANK RESPONDS: I am glad you enjoyed my books. I try to send out a free book to anyone whose letters I publish. I figure if they took the time to write to me then I can take the time to send them a book (while my supplies last, that is).

No matter how careless or nutty or wild a shooter might be, if he makes it past the 5-Count you will bet on him -- preferably a single bet on Pass Line or Come with odds. A random roller can take care with his dice or be a wild man but random is random and over time the results will be the same, a sad but true fact.

Now if a shooter made it through the 5-Count and then his turn comes again, he must pass the 5-Count again. Random rollers have good rolls and bad rolls and what he did last time is irrelevant to what he will do on his current turn. Keep in mind I am talking about random rollers and not dice controllers. Dice controllers are in a whole different category.

The main idea behind the 5-Count is that it will eliminate about 57 percent of random rolls on which a player might bet. That will allow you to play your normal amount of time but only be in danger about 43 percent of your session. The savings are immense by playing this way.

The 5-Counter does get into the action plenty of times and the anticipation builds when a shooter sevens out prior to the 5-Count. After all, one enjoyable aspect of gambling is anticipation.

I will state again that you must make the very best bets at the table so that the casino’s edge over you is small. With the 5-Count and proper betting you do give yourself a decent chance to beat the house.
