The show and then the show23 April 2019
Over my casino gaming career I’ve seen some great shows such as Sid Caesar and Imogene Coca, James Brown, Danny Gans, Rita Rudner, Penn and Teller, Petula Clark, Siegfried and Roy, David Copperfield, Melinda, Cher, Smokey Robinson, The Four Tops, Don Rickles, and all the Cirque Du Soleil shows to name the few that just came to the top of my mind. Doesn’t going to a casino town and just gambling seem as if you are missing out on other great things to experience? The sporting events alone are worth the airfare. I’ve seen some great fights including one where an ear went flying off the skull of the champion. The casino is always there for you but the shows have set times and you have to be there at those times or, obviously, you miss the show. But there is another show; one almost everyone misses and that is the show of the other people in the casino, and on the streets, and in the elevators and restaurants. These people are theater at its most magnificent and oftentimes weird aspects. For example, I was exclaiming to my wife the Beautiful AP about how perceptive I am, you know, because I’m this great writer. We were taking our early morning walk on the Strip, and AP nudged me and said, “Did you see that?” “Huh? What?” I asked. “Turn around and look,” she said. So I did. Right behind us was a guy walking his girlfriend on a leash around her neck. He was pulling her along as if she were a recalcitrant dog. AP smiled, “They passed right by us when you were talking about how perceptive you are.” At the slots the players can go from totally involved all the way to whining and moaning about their bad luck and how they hate the casinos. That is until they win and then they shout like lunatics and hug everyone near them. There are slot players who talk to themselves and others who talk to everyone around them. Slot players can be model types and occasionally creatures that should return to the Black Lagoon. At a craps table you can see players who feel as if they are at a funeral and then in a few rolls of the dice they then explode with the feeling of being in New Orleans during the Mardi Gras. Blackjack players are often thinkers and worriers and those who play the carnival games want something easy to play where they can sit down for long periods of time and not do too much cogitating. It is part of the entertainment to just sit in a casino and look around. People are the best shows in the world. And should you go for a walk outside look for people walking other people by using a chain. This article is provided by the Frank Scoblete Network. Melissa A. Kaplan is the network's managing editor.
