The Casino Appeal27 June 2023
The piece asked some questions:
The committed casino player had normal trips somewhat all the time. It could be every other month; or monthly, or weekly or a couple of times a week. Going to the casinos was a big deal to these players. It didn’t really matter what game they played or how much they played for; some casino players actually identified themselves as casino players. It was part of their identities. “I am a casino player, my friend, a true casino player.” Many of the truly committed casino players tended to frequent certain casinos as their primary ones. They had attachments to these places. I only had one big question about these observations, just one:
Okay, what do we have here? Most of the ones I talked to were unabashedly socializers. It gave organization to their lives. I can fully understand why some seniors don’t want to be without social interactions. In today’s world many of our families are scattered all over the country. The old idea of a neighborhood is not as powerful as it used to be. When I was growing up in Brooklyn, New York, (the good old days) my family members were all within a mile of me. (Try to get away with stuff back then! There were always eyes upon you – aunts and uncles everywhere.) Today? Their sons and daughters and grandchildren are everywhere. And who are the ones that make casino playing their appointment of choice? Just from talking to the regulars that I know; they told me that they had really good luck their first or first few times in the casinos and that stimulated them to keep coming back for more and more. They now knew a real thrill and they kept going back for more of it. Makes sense. There is no doubt that casino play is exciting and fun for a lot of reasons: challenging chance, enjoying others’ company. I am sure many of us have several reasons why we go. I certainly do. All the best in and out of the casinos! Frank Scoblete’s web site is www.frankscoblete.com. His books are available from Amazon.com, Barnes and Noble, Kindle, e-books, libraries and bookstores.
