The 5-Count and the come out roll

29 August 2012

Frank –

I’ve got your book “Beat the Craps Out of the Casinos!” and I have used the 5-Count as a successful money management tool. My experience has been it allows my sessions to last longer and many times have me still at the table when the payoff numbers start to repeat – the “hot” roll.

However I do have a question pertaining to the 5-Count.

Let’s say a shooter establishes a point of 5 (1 count), then rolls an 11 (2 count), then rolls a 4 (3 count), then makes the point of 5 (4 count). So now we are at a new come out roll. The shooter rolls a 7. Does the count start over or is it considered a “no roll” for 5-Count purposes and the next point that is rolled on the come out, is the 5-Count allowing me to then make a come bet?

I’ve played it as the 7 being a “no roll” and making a come bet after a new point has been established. I’m asking because I have a friend that I’m converting to this excellent bankroll management tool and I’d like to teach the correct method.

Thanks,
Alfred B.

Dear Alfred:

The next point number on the come out is the 5-Count. That 7 is the 4-count and holding. So you are correct.

I go into greater detail of the 5-Count in my new book “Casino Craps: Shoot to Win!” It is a far more detailed book and has information I didn't even know about when I wrote my first book over two decades ago.
