Staying at the Game25 January 2022
ANSWER: Obviously, you didn’t want to leave and that is fine given your circumstances. The other obvious point is that you don’t want to return your full win to the casino by eating through your win too deeply. Giving back a win is probably worse than just losing from the get go. A good way to stay, but also not risk all your win, is to divide that win up. Take $300 and put it away, preferably in your room’s safe if you are at a casino for an overnight stay or two or three. If it is only a day visit then you have to put the money in your pocket or purse – never to touch it! You also put in your original stake, what you brought to the game originally, in that safe or pocket or purse. Now you have $200 as your current stake. You use that money – and only that money – to continue to play. Do not bet any higher than you normally bet and do not play games with which you are not familiar. If you lose that $200 then you are done. If you should win, say, another $200, put that aside with the $300 and your original stake. I think this is an easy way to ride out your win and give you a chance for an even bigger win if luck stays with you. The game or games you are playing are important too. So are the denominations of your bets. All of these things you have to calculate. You do have decisions to make but isn’t it more fun making decisions when you are ahead than when you are behind? QUESTION: How come only some casinos offer roulette players “surrender” on the “even-money” bets? I would think more people would be interested in playing roulette if there was “surrender” as a part of what the casino offers. ANSWER: Each casino makes the decision about what rules and alternatives to those rules they will offer. The “surrender” option at the American double-zero wheel, and the European option called “en prison” on the single-zero wheel, will reduce the house edge in half when the zero or double-zero shows because the player essentially gets back half of the losing “even-money” wager. The American game’s house edge goes from 5.26 percent down to 2.63 percent. The European game’s house edge is reduced from 2.7 percent to 1.35 percent – which is now one of the best bets in the casino. You can always ask if the casino gives this option. Often it is not stated on the table card. If the option is available then the “even-money” bets are the only ones you should make. All the best in and out of the casinos!
