Should I bank my free slot play?

Hi Frank,

I'm a regular reader of CasinoCityTimes, and have many blackjack books by you and others. I just have a small (percentage-wise) question.

I play blackjack regularly at three Indian casinos near my home in the San Diego area. I do pretty well. These casinos offer $5.00 free slot play once a week for seniors. I am not into slots at all (just blackjack). However, I like to grab every small thing I can.

The question: Should I just play the $5.00 out each week, or should I let it accumulate over time (say two months) and then play the accumulated amount (say $40.00) and max the bets?

Dear James:

As long as the casino allows you to save those slot credits, I'd save up. While doing so will not change the house edge on the slot machines, you have a better chance of seeing some kind of win when you have $40 in credits than when you have only $5. This is just feel-good advice. Over time, your expected loss remains the same.
