Rollercoaster6 June 2023
She was said by many eyewitness accounts from people who were sadly and brutally put to death for daring to see her ride down the hill screaming her lungs out. She was nude of course. She did not want those common folk to see her naked. So, ???????? ?? ??????! (Off with their heads!) She is said to have truly enjoyed the massive ups and downs that came with riding the first rollercoaster which was in her yard, near the stables. Very few things could match that. Her top rollercoaster mechanic, a man named Lars who had become known as Lard for the amazing amount of weight he gained in one six-month period he spent with Catherine, a woman whose appetites were known by many for being gargantuan. Lard had become massive and one night was caught eating one of Catherine’s horses, now dead, in the stable. Coney Island in the United States became the site of the first American public rollercoaster in 1927, known as the Cyclone. It was near the carousal where the fake horses rode little kids up and down, up and down, and around and around. In the 1953 movie, The Beast from 20,000 Fathoms, it was the killing of this prehistoric dinosaur that became known as Lars to the army sent to do the beast in. The Casino Rollercoasters The casinos of the world are rollercoasters for most players. Players’ bankrolls go up and down, up and down but over time the casino wins the money. That’s the startling fact about rollercoasters. The ride ends and not always pleasantly. The effects don’t always end, however; because there can be after effects from your ride. My little friend Arman ate so many Nathan’s hotdogs near the Cyclone we were about to ride when I told him, “You shouldn’t be eating all that stuff.” He laughed much like Lard who then started eating that dead horse. We enjoyed the ups and downs of the Cyclone and when we were finished, we walked to our bikes (we used to ride our bikes to Coney Island which was about five miles away from our homes) and Arman coughed and threw up over our bikes, the kids’ bikes next to ours, and ourselves. He threw up a bunch of times. Digested Nathans is not as pleasant a smell as a non-digested hotdog. Oh, yes, Arman had enjoyed the Cyclone ride all right but the after-effects were awful; for him, for the other kids’ bikes, and for me. To this day I am not a big fan of rollercoasters or horses for that matter. I’ll occasionally still eat a hotdog. Riders on the Casino Rollercoasters What kind of casino rollercoaster do you prefer? There are several kinds and each tends to attract different types of players. Let’s take mini-baccarat, a good game in terms of its house edges on its two major bets banker and player (but not on its third bet, tie). If you bet banker or player the game will likely go back and forth (or up and down) so you won’t get blasted with ridiculous losing streaks. Now, look at blackjack, another card game, and the most popular table game in the casino. Unless, you hit some of the premium hands where you put up more money to play them properly, you can have strong losing streaks. Even hands that favor the player, including a blackjack, can tie or lose! You will find that sometimes the losing streaks at blackjack can be long and strong. The game is fun but it can be a rollercoaster far more “coastery” than mini-baccarat. But there are other games where the ride can be really, really rough, like a bucking bronco. Action players love craps. Yes, craps has a few bets that are close contests between house and player (pass, don’t pass, come, don’t come, placing the 6 and 8) but so many bets at craps are awful, with extremely high house edges, that a craps player making the bad bets who takes a serious beating is not a rare event. Think of Arman coming off that rollercoaster! Barf! Roulette is an interesting game. You can play the even-money bets of red/black, odd/even, high/low which are essentially back and forth bets; you win some, you lose some (more) but the game usually doesn’t get away from you. You usually don’t get blown away playing these bets. Now, play the inside bets right on one or two numbers and you can have massive losing streaks and also big wins if luck favors you. But luck is slippery in a casino so it is hard to count on it when you are playing tougher propositions as those inside bets can be. Slots, yikes! There is no telling what kind of machine you are playing. Will it hit enough to make you some money? Will it freeze up and shatter your session bankroll with constant losses? Slots can be so up and down, up and down, that only Catherine the Great would love it but most of us don’t enjoy the downs. At least I don’t. I am sure that you have your favorite game(s) and that the pattern of that game suits you. I guess you can say that we all have rollercoasters that suit our personality.
