Moving Away from the Captain's Supersystem

25 February 2007

Frank:

I have been away from your column for several months -- too hard to think about craps when I am not visiting the casinos! I have to say I was taken aback by several references in recent columns that you are downplaying the Captain's Doey-Don't strategy.

I have always had good luck with this strategy. It is certainly not the most exciting, but I can spend extended time at the tables using it. But you have played far more craps than I ever will, so you must have good reason to be moving away from it. I understand that the risk of the 12 actually makes for a higher house edge, but my experience has been that the Doey-Don't allows me to stay at a table longer and thus gives me more opportunities to catch the hot roll that can overcome that slightly higher disadvantage. Perhaps I am just falling prey to the gambler's sin of remembering the few big wins and forgetting the many small losses.

I could not find a column that explains your change in opinion and would love to read your thinking on this.

As always, I enjoy your columns immensely.

Best regards,
MG

Dear MG:

You are right, I have moved away from the Captain's Supersystem for several reasons. Originally this system did two things - it reduced how much you bet on random rollers and it allowed you to stay in the game looking for hot rollers and "rhythmic rollers" (today we call them controlled shooters). It was an early attempt to work out a winning method for craps play, recognizing the game had some shooters who were changing the actual probabilities.

But there are better ways to do this than using the Supersystem (which uses the doey-don't as it's main form of betting). Remember that when the Captain formulated the Supersystem, he was speculating that there were actually controlled shooters out there at the craps tables - his speculation was right. Today we know there are at least several hundred winning dice controllers playing the game - most of them trained by Golden Touch Craps.

We have found through a thorough mathematical analysis that the best way to play the game with random rollers at the table is to:

  • Use the 5-Count religiously on them.
  • Bet much less on them than you do on controlled shooters.
  • Only use the Pass and Come betting options on random rollers - thus foregoing the doey-don't.

On controlled shooters you want to bet more and at a certain point, determined by the software program SmartCraps, move away from Come betting, which gets its power from the appearance of the 7, and start placing the 6 and 8 and buying the 4 and 10, if the vig is only paid on winning bets.

I am giving you a free month on our private web site at www.goldentouchcraps.com. I think you'll enjoy mingling with the 6,000 members we have.

All the best in and out of the casinos!
