Mike's craps system and fast VP play

14 January 2014

FROM MIKE: I mentioned, about a couple of months ago, that I had an idea for a modified come balance system. I've toyed with it, on paper, but sort of get confused, sometimes, on the outcome, especially if there is a long roll.

I'll go ahead and share it with you... if we can perfect it, we can share co-credit :)

So, a come balance system should be an ideal way to always win at craps, assuming that very long rolls don't occur, and that you have a large bankroll (sometimes the $10k table limit might be necessary).

With a come balance system, the come bet should always equal the sum of what is on other bets on the table, so if the 7 comes, you don't leave money on the table.

I tried this, one night, in Kansas City, with only $200, and it didn't take long for $200 to be on the table, and I had nothing left to keep making come balance bets with. And, then, the 7 came on the come out, and I was screwed!

And, I've played with this idea, on paper, and I had a significantly long roll, one time, and would have needed $10k (the table limit in KC) to have played all the way through to the 7.

So, my idea is what if there is a way to split the come bet with a hop 7? Or, to alternate the come balance bet and then a hop 7 bet?

Here's a simple version of how my modified idea works (I think this works best on crapless craps table?)

1) come out roll bet of $5 -- point is 12 -- total sum bets of $5
2) come bet of $5 -- 10 is rolled -- total sum bets of $10
3) come bet of $10 -- 9 is rolled -- total sum bets of $20
4) come bet of $15 with a $3 hop 7 bet -- 9 is rolled -- $10 win on repeated 9 -- total sum of bets still in play of $28
5) come bet of $15 with a $3 hop 7 bet -- 6 is rolled -- total sum of bets still in play $46
6) come bet of $20 with a $6 hop 7 bet -- 6 is rolled -- $15 win on repeated 6 -- total sum of bets still in play of $57
7) come bet of $25 with a $9 hop 7 bet -- 10 is rolled -- $5 win on repeated 10 -- total sum of bets still in play of $86
8) come bet of $30 with a $12 hop 7 bet -- 7 is rolled

This was a series of rolls on my kitchen table so, when the 7 hit, the hop 7 bet wins $90, right? And, then, you can take down the remaining $12 hop bet for a net of $8, right? And, the $30 come bet is paid $30, right, which returns the $30 come bet placed?

So, if every series of rolls was this nice and cute, this system would work, right?

Again, I think it takes a crapless craps table for this to work, because every come bet would be suspect to the 2 or 3 if that was rolled?

I came up with a total profit of $26 on this series. Is that correct?

Looking forward to your comments!

FRANK RESPONDS: Mike, abandon this and stick to the best method; low Pass or Come, full odds (or what you can afford). I did a Martingale which is similar to your idea and won a few times and then got my head handed to me. Also hopping sevens is an awful bet. Never give the casino the kind of edges these hop bets entail.

FROM JIM: Your article “Take Your Losing Like a Chump” stated that we should trade our lazy Americans for immigrants who want to work? Brilliant! Frank Scoblete for President!

Seriously, thanks for all of your good writing. I always stop and read your e-mails as soon as they pop in! Regards your recent article “Take Your Losing Like a Chump,” you hit on one of my favorite gambling peeves: the speed at which some folks play video slots.

I cringe when I see them push spin and stop the spin immediately, like a spin a second! I think that some of them actually believe by doing so, they will change the result and win more times (by giving the slot machine less time to "think" about the outcome) rather than just displaying the already selected result faster, which is all that they are doing. What they do is accelerate the percent take that the casino has built into the specific machine. I can't see how they can be enjoying their casino time, but to each their own I guess.

As for me, just like in reckless driving, speed kills!

FRANK RESPONDS: I’ve got nothing more to add to that. Indeed the faster you play a game where the casino has an edge the more likely that edge will grind you down. This is a truth that many players just can’t seem to fathom. You are right, speed kills.

I am sending you a free copy of my book “The Virgin Kiss.”
